Born in Ireland, Gillian Moss trained as a jeweler at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, and went on to graduate from the prestigious Glasgow School of Art, Scotland, with an M.A. in Design. In 2001, she moved with her family to San Diego, California.

Her early studio practice focused on non-precious jewelry fashioned from modest materials, such as paper and sheet plastic. These she manipulated into three dimensional forms which were then hand painted. The restrictions of the mark making on her jewelry led to a gradual exploration of working at a larger scale and on works not associated with the body. This work encompassed abstract color explorations through to figurative story telling. Each subject she chooses to work on is integral to the medium she selects, and may include painting, collage, quilting or printmaking.

She has exhibited widely within Southern California, including Oceanside Museum of Art, Oceanside CA; Visions Museum of Textile Art, San Diego, CA; Fresh Paint Gallery, La Jolla, CA; and Front Porch Gallery, Carlsbad, CA.
